Mark Violand

Flooring Inspections Service

Mark Violand has been in the floor covering business since 1977. Carpet care was his first encounter. As consumers became more interested in other types of floor coverings, so did Mark. As a certified senior carpet inspector, Mark now operates an inspection, correction, repair, and training business which handles all types of floor coverings. Mark has been training carpet cleaning and floor covering professionals almost as long as he has been one himself.

As part owner of one of Northeast Ohio’s largest carpet care companies, he was responsible for the technical training of all service personnel. The company performed services in all aspects of carpet cleaning, carpet maintenance, water damage restoration, color repair (spot dyeing), carpet repair, and carpet installation. Industry involvement is important to Mark. He is currently the Chair of The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) ANSI/IICRC S800 Standard for Professional Inspection of Textile Floorcovering, he is also a consensus body member of the ANSI/IICRC S100 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Cleaning of Textile Floor Coverings. He was chairman of the Senior Carpet Inspector committee and Carpet Repair and Reinstallation Technician committee.  

Mark is credentialed to inspect carpet, wood, laminate, vinyl, ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone floors. He holds credentials with the IICRC, Inspector Training Services, Tile Council of North America Education Foundation, Natural Fiber Inspector, and Ceramic Tile Education Foundation. He has also received his technical certifications from the International Certified Flooring Installers Association (CFI). Mark is also a National Floor Safety Institute Walkway Auditor Certificate Holder (WACH).

Prior industry involvement includes serving on the IICRC Board of Directors from 1987 to 1991 and was part of the Public Relations and Marketing committee for more than eight years. Mark was the national president of the United Carpet Cleaners Institute (UCCI) in 1987-88 and was the founding director of the UCCI’s Cleveland Chapter which merged with the Society of Cleaning and Restoration Technicians (SCRT). He was past Member at Large for the National Institute of Certified Floor Covering Inspectors (NICFI).

Mark enjoys writing articles that pertain to flooring problems and concerns. As a carpet and flooring inspector he sees many different issues regarding improper care of carpet and flooring along with installation failures and manufacturing concerns. The things he sees in the field are the topic of many articles which are shared with his clients, customer service providers, cleaners, and restorers.

Mark enjoys spending time with his three daughters and seven grandchildren. He volunteers with many local organizations such as: St. Paul Catholic Church Seasons of Hope Bereavement Ministry, Knights of Columbus, Lake Township FISH, Love our Community, Christian Appalachian Project, and many other functions at his church.
